Pedometers for tax breaks works like this. The healthcare in this country is so incredibly over priced that no one I know can afford to get sick. Missing a day of work either means missing a meal or a monthly bill. So what I would propose to the government is to invest in the preventative healthcare of its people by giving them an incentive to get more exercise.
The pedometers would be given for free, or a nominal price to cover program costs, and would track the amount of movement people get in a day. I would also propose some sort of gps positioning and/or other safeguards to help prevent abuse such as attaching the thing to their car or washing machine to cheat. The more movement or steps that it tracks the more of a yearly tax break that a person would get at the end of the year based upon certain standards of health guidelines as set by healthcare professionals. Then the tax break would equivocate with that guideline up to a maximum value of a discount off taxes. So instead of instituting things such as a fat tax we could save the country money the other way by making a health tax break.
There is much more to add to this but in a nutshell that is the idea.
